Oval Medallion of 1778

This rare – and probably unique – medallion dated 1778 was inscribed ‘Major Sir Richard Worsley(1751-1805) For Services’ from the Coxheath Battalion South Hampshire Militia. He was married to Lady Worsley with whom be became involved in a notorious court case over her affair with Captain Nesbitt which was immortalised in a Gillray Cartoon.
